How to Cook Brown Rice on the Stovetop
Step 1: Rinse the rice
Rinse the rice in a mesh strainer beneath running water. Let it drain.
Steps 2 & 3: Boil the rice
Place 1 cup of brown rice with water and salt in a pot.
Allow the mixture to reach a soft boil.
Step 4: Cook
Cover with a tight-fitting lid and place on low heat for 45-50 minutes.
Step 5: Rest, fluff, and enjoy
Uncover and let stand for 5 minutes. Fluff with a fork and enjoy!
Expert Tips:
- Rinse the brown rice under cold water before cooking to remove excess surface starch, preventing clumping.
- The ratio of water to rice will change depending on the type of rice you are using. For this long grain brown rice, use a ratio of 1 cup of rice to 2.5 cups of water.
