Russian Braised Cabbage Recipe (Тушеная капуста)
This Braised Cabbage recipe is impressive. Braised cabbage requires only a few farmer’s market ingredients. Cabbage wedges, carrots, yellow onion, tomato paste, unsalted butter, salt, and pepper are always easy to find!

All you need are several humble ingredients to make some delicious braised cabbage!
Raise your hand if you’re obsessed with cabbage. It is seriously such an underrated vegetable that serves so many purposes! You can use it in a ridiculous amount of dishes. Cabbage is always on my grocery list because it is so versatile.
I think cabbage deserves all the glory cauliflower and broccoli are getting these days. But then again, I wouldn’t want to start a veggie war.
I’ve been meaning to share this recipe for a long time. One of my absolute favorite things to do with it makes this incredible braised cabbage dish. It is so tasty!
This recipe combines shredded cabbage, onions, carrots, tomato paste, and butter. I love finding favorite ways to use regular green cabbage in the kitchen.
With just a bit of effort and love, cabbage wedges can turn into a perfect delicacy at the table. It can make a great side dish. It’s so easy to make that it might become your favorite recipe; who knows?
So what can you do/ make with braised cabbage?
You can eat it as is, on the side, or as a salad. Seriously, it is so good.

To chop up the cabbage, You’ll need a sharp knife and cutting boards. Also, a grater works in shredding the cabbage. To cook, you’ll need a large skillet. When sautéing the cabbage, I like to use a wooden spoon, but I’d recommend using a slotted spoon to remove the savoy cabbage from the skillet.

How to make Braised Cabbage
Step 1: Prep the vegetables
Shred cabbage into a bowl. Chop the onion and grate the carrot, then set aside in a separate bowl.
Step 2: Sauté the cabbage
In a pan, melt the butter and add the cabbage. Saute for 1 minute.
Step 3: Add onion and carrots
Add in the onion and carrot. Stir.
Step 4: Season and add tomato paste
Add in salt (I use sea salt) and tomato paste.
Step 5: Sauté
Over low heat sauté all together, stirring occasionally.
Step 6: Enjoy
After 10 minutes, the cabbage will be ready to eat. You may add salt to your taste if needed.
